Here’s a tale for some of you
Those that know a thing or two
About the art of living day to day
While some find comfort in a home
There’s some others choose to roam
Seems they found themselves another way
Me, I’ve been a ramblin’ round
Been here and there, and out of town
Avoiding both the narrow and the straight
Been traveling down that open road
Searching for the truth of old
Trying to find my way to heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
It’s a long and winding way to heaven’s gate
Been trying to find what’s right for me
By peering through the night to see
A way to get myself through all this mess
There’s those that said come follow me
Not on your life, not while I’m free
I’m not about to wager on your guess
You question me, well that’s your right
My way’s heavy, yours way’s light
But, I think I’ll take my chance on love and fate
I’ll take the rough and jumbled lines
To preacher’s sermons any time
The road less worn still leads to heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
It’s a long and winding way to heaven’s gate
Some guy points right and I turn left
I’m not about to take that bet
My independence runs too deep for that
There’s comfort here, he says, you’ll see
Perhaps for you, but not for me
I’d rather take my chances where I’m at
You say your way is tried and true
Feels wrong to me, and so do you
Feels like a trap that’s set with sugar bait
I think I’ll take that other way
A change of pace, and come what may
Feeling my way home to heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
To heaven’s gate
It’s a long and winding way to heaven’s gate
